HAPPY "BACK TO SCHOOL" COMPASS PARENTS!

I hope you all had a wonderful summer filled with family time, relaxation and fun.  I trust you enjoyed the break from the books and busy school schedules but, if you are like us, you are ready for all the new year has in store and are excited to get back to a routine!

Compass Public School Ministry returns for its third year, passionate about coming alongside Christians in the public schools.  We strive to be a resource to you and your families and are here to encourage you as you navigate your way through this mission field.  As we come alongside parents this year we hope to:

  • Connect those sharing this mission field, creating opportunities to share experiences, both challenges we face as well as exciting things God is doing.
  • Provide resources regarding legal freedoms we hold as Christians in the public schools.  This is especially important given recent changes in legislation related to gay marriage and gender issues.
  • Come together to discuss our roles as parents of public school students, including how to build important relationships, get involved on your campus and impact the culture of your school.
  • Provide regular opportunities for corporate prayer for our schools, educators, parents and students.
  • Be a resource to families as God calls them to consider a transition to the public schools.
  • Provide opportunities to build relationships between church and school through generous service.

COMING SOON!  Put these dates on your calendar:

September 13th - COMPASS KICKOFF -  All educators, Grace Church and beyond, are invited to a special commissioning service at Grace, both 9am and 10:40am services.  These educators (teachers, paras, school nurses, bus drivers, administration, support staff, etc)  will be commissioned by our Senior Pastor, Troy Dobbs, onto the mission field of their public school.  Invite educators you know to come and receive a blessing as they start off a new year!  Stop by our Compass Booth in the Commons or at the Family Fun Fest to hear about upcoming events and receive a free gift!

September 27th - PRAY FOR AMERICA BUS RALLY TOUR - On September 9th the National Day of Prayer Task Force and its many ministry partners will begin a 56-day trek around the country, traveling 5,915 miles through 26 states to mobilize prayer on more than 50 campuses.  The Pray for America Bus Rally Tour 2015 was launched to raise up intercession for schools, colleges and universities.  On Sunday, September 27th, this group will be at Grace Church!    They will be joining us to hear what God is doing on our campuses and in the hearts of students, parents and teachers in our area.  They will also share a bit about what God is doing across the nation.   Come meet this dynamic group of prayer warriors, share what's on your heart, hear from others and spend some time praying corporately for our schools.  Lunch will be available for purchase.  Bring your families!  For more details and to RSVP, go to www.compasslink.org/events or click here https://atgrace.ccbchurch.com/form_response.php?id=227.

October 7th - PARENT MEETING, "My Kids Attend Public School!  Now What?" Families are invited to learn more about issues specific to being Christians in the public schools.  We will discuss resources available through Compass Public School ministry, look to our role as parents of students in the public schools, learn about our legal freedoms as laid out by the First Amendment when it comes to living our faith at school, share concerns, provide support and spend time in prayer. Dinner will be provided for a small fee.  We will meet at 6pm in CA120C at Grace Church.  RSVP to compassinfo@compasslink.org by October 1st.  Parents and students are welcome!  For more information go to www.compasslink.org/events.

October 10th - BIG SERVE - Once again, Compass will be partnering with Grace Church's Big Serve to show the love of Christ by meeting our schools' most basic needs.  This fall we have projects lined up at three EP schools, CMS, Oak Point/EHSI and Forest Hills.  If you have a student attending one of these schools, or just want to help out on this day, watch for sign up links coming soon.  For questions, contact Anita Anderson at anitajane_anderson@me.com.
