Happy Spring!

God is so good!  He continues to come alongside the Compass team and others led to the mission field of the public schools!  We love to share what God is doing in and through His people in our schools.  Here are a few highlights…

Our Awesome STUDENTS!

  • On April 18th over 400 students gathered at Minnetonka High School for a My Story event.  Students, staff and a few professional athletes shared their stories of faith and over 50 texted that they said "yes" to Jesus!!  To God be the Glory!  Big thanks to all who worked hard to make this amazing event happen!

  • A similar group is hard at work in Eden Prairie preparing for a similar My Story event at EPHS Auditorium THIS Friday night, May 15th at 7:30pm.  EP families…encourage your students to attend and invite others!

  • Weekly student led bible studies are wrapping up for the year.  We are so proud of students who have boldly brought the study of God's Word into their schools and for staff who have supported them and made this possible.  Here is one group celebrating their last meeting at Oak Point Elementary/EHSI in Eden Prairie last week.

Our Awesome PARENTS!

A group of committed parents and teachers, and even a local pastor, came out to our most recent Legal Freedoms Seminar in April to dig into our constitution to better understand our legal rights as Christians within the public schools.  They learned that the Free Exercise Clause of our First Amendment protects our students' rights at school to pray, share their faith, read their bible, express their faith in assignments and so much more.  This group is now better equipped to guide their students in this area.  Compass holds quarterly seminars on this topic.  Stay tuned for information regarding our next seminar coming up late summer.

In April we wrapped up our weekly public school prayer effort for the school year.  THANK YOU to all the parents and grandparents who have attended and lifted up our educators, students and families within our schools.  What a special time we had together as we laid our burdens at His feet and watched Him answer our prayers.  Watch for information about next years' prayer effort that will start in the fall.  In the meantime, KEEP PRAYING!!

Our Awesome EDUCATORS!

As missionaries on the front lines, our public school educators are a HUGE blessing to us!  Don't forget to say "thank you" to your teachers and let them know you will be praying for them!!  Please pray that all Christian teachers will find a way to connect with others within their schools and districts and be able to come together for prayer, bible study, accountability, encouragement and support.  Pray they would be strongly rooted in their faith and allow God to use them in their schools to show His light and share His truth.  WE LOVE YOU TEACHERS!!  THANK YOU FOR IMPACTING THE LIVES OF OUR STUDENTS!!

Compass has had the privilege this year to serve in SIX schools, showing the love of Christ by meeting our schools' most basic needs.  Here are the fruits of the labor of a dedicated group from Forest Hills Elementary who planed tulip bulbs in October as part of Grace Churchs' Big Serve…

Plans are moving ahead for backpack and school supply collection during the week of Grace Church's VBS, June 15-19.  During the week children can bring home an empty backpack and return it by the end of the week filled with designated supplies for K-6 graders.  If your kids are not participating in VBS you can still help out!  Contact Anita Anderson at to learn how to get a backpack or to help with collections.  For more information on Compass' service initiatives to our schools go to

A Student Safety and Public Privacy Amendment, which would require public schools to separate bathrooms, locker rooms and dressing areas by gender, was introduced in the House and Senate last month as part of their Education Omnibus bill.  The amendment passed in the House, but not in the Senate.  Now a sub-committee made up of five House reps and five Senators will negotiate what goes into the final version of the Education Omnibus bill, including the fate of this amendment.  Once they are finished, the bill will go to the House and Senate for a vote, and then the joint legislature for a vote.  This amendment is expected to get a lot of attention during the negotiation, and be used as a bargaining chip for each side.

It seems we will have Republican support so need to focus primarily on reaching out to our Democratic friends on the sub-committee. See attached for their contact info as well as contact info for the rest of the sub-committee.  Please reach out to these folks, especially if you are a constituent of one of these areas!!

Continue to pray for wisdom and boldness for our  leaders who fight to uphold conservative, biblical values at a time it is very unpopular to do so.  Also, get involved, build relationships with your legislators, get informed and take action as needed.  If you do not receive our legislative updates and want to be added to this mailing list, please email us at  Special thanks for the leader of Compass' Legislative Arm, Daphne Edwards, for her diligence in keeping us informed and guiding us on how to take action when action is needed.  Her efforts are amazing!!

Thank you for all your support and prayers!  Please take some time to check out our website at or "like" us on Facebook at Compass-Navigating Public Education.

Enjoy your summer!

God Bless!
