Happy February Compass Families!
January flew by (which is a good thing in MN) and Compass Public School Ministry has much to report!
Religious Freedoms Day
Each year, the President declares January 16th to be Religious Freedom Day, and calls upon Americans to "observe this day through appropriate events and activities in homes, schools, and places of worship." This day is the anniversary of the passage, of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom in 1786. The goal of Religious Freedom Day is to promote and protect students' religious expression rights by informing educators, parents, and students about these liberties. This year Compass encouraged our teachers, parents and students to recognize Religious Freedom Day during the school week leading up to January 16. Here is a link with more information: http://religiousfreedomday.com/.
On Friday, January 23rd, area educators gathered for the weekend at a local retreat center to participate in a "think tank" format to discuss how God is leading them to transform their classrooms and schools with God's love and truth. There were 28 educators from 15 different school districts, representing 16 churches with a combined total of 369 years of education experience. It was a powerful time and God gave then each a personal vision for how He is leading them on their mission field. If you know an educator who would be interested in such a weekend, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Another Daniel Weekend is coming soon!
Legal Freedoms Workshop
On January 27th fifteen gathered to get serious about empowering parents to equip their students to make a difference on their school campuses at the Student Freedoms Seminar at Grace Church. Do you know the difference between the establishment clause and the free exercise clause and how these sections of our First Amendment impact our teacher and student freedoms at school? If not, attend our next seminar coming up on April 16th. Every Christian family in the public schools should be equipped with this information. Put this on your calendar and stay tuned for specifics about this April seminar!
Prayer for our Public Schools
We continue to meet weekly for corporate prayer, praying for our schools, educators, students and families within the public schools. Join us any Wednesday night at Grace Church, room CA120C. All are welcome!
Educator Event with Greg Stier
This Saturday, February 7th, Greg Stier from Dare to Share Ministry will be speaking to our educators and encouraging them on their mission field of the public schools. In addition to our time with Greg, educators will participate in a Legal Freedoms Seminar led by Clint Elliot from Alliance Defending Freedom highlighting our rights as Christians within the public schools. Invite any educators you know! Event details at http://www.compasslink.org/Events?fldMonth=&fldEventID=365932&fldOccuranceDate=2/7/2015.
On Saturday, February 21st, Compass will once again be partnering with Grace Church and serving in our local schools. This time we will serve in Eden Prairie High School, Eden Lake Elementary in Eden Prairie and Southwest High School in Minneapolis. Join us as we work to show the love of Christ by meeting our schools most basic needs. Great family service opportunity!! Sign up and more details here http://www.atgrace.com/events/big-serve.
Christian Community in Our Schools
Compass is committed to helping our students plug into Christian community within their schools. We have developed relationships with leaders of FCA, Young Life, CRU, and Campus Faith Clubs in an effort to help our students and parents become more aware of opportunities for our students to connect with other believers at school. If you would like to learn more about what is available for your student at their school, contact us at email@example.com.
