Educator Breakfast Follow-up – How are you doing??

Six months ago, many of you educators and several parents attended Compass' 3rd Annual Educator Breakfast at Grace Church.  Those who were there recall that each of you were challenged to listen for God's voice and write down how God was leading you personally to transform your public school through the love and truth of Jesus Christ.  It was so wonderful to see how God was working in the hearts of our educators!  Here were the responses:

  • 54 committed to dedicated prayer for students and colleagues.
  • 41 committed to deepening their faith in order to share Christ in an authentic and meaningful way.
  • 37 committed to praying for and taking opportunities to share the gospel in their schools.
  • 16 committed to starting K-6 student bible studies in their school through Good News Clubs.
  • 2 indicated interest in starting a Compass Ministry in their church.

How are you doing with the commitments you made?  Have you followed through with what God laid on your heart that morning?  If not, how can Compass encourage and support you in doing so?  Always know we are a resource to you!  compassinfo@compasslink.org.

Biblical Worldview

Do you have a Biblical Worldview?  Do your children? What exactly is it?? Why is it important for Christians to adhere to a biblical worldview?  A recent Barna study shows that only 4% of Americans have a biblical worldview.  More shocking, the results for self-professing "born again" believers in America were a dismal 19%.  This study used the following questions, which are considered core doctrines to Christianity, to determine their results:

  • Do absolute moral truths exist?
  • Is absolute truth defined by the bible?
  • Did Jesus Christ live a sinless life?
  • Is God the all-powerful and all-knowing Creator of the universe, and does He still rule today?
  • Is salvation a gift from God that cannot be earned?
  • Is Satan real?
  • Does a Christian have a responsibility to share his or her faith in Christ with other people?
  • Is the Bible accurate in all of its teachings?

How would you answer these questions? How would your children? As believers and as Christian parents it is our responsibility to dig into scripture to find answers for these questions and to guide our children to do the same.  This summer may be a good time to "get back to the basics" and create a foundation for you and your family to be better equipped as you head back to school in the fall. If Compass can support you in any way, please contact us at compassinfo@compasslink.org.

Great Resource!

Whether you are an educator or parent, we would encourage you to read "Navigating Public Schools" by Stephen and Sarah Williams.  This recently published book is a wealth of information for those of us called to the mission field of the public schools.  Learn about the worldview battle going on in our public schools and how to keep you family on course, how your family's faith and what is taught at home impacts your child in their journey, understanding separation of church and state, making sense of your legal rights as laid out by the First Amendment, dig into challenges in public school curriculum (science, history/social studies, literature, sex ed/anti-bullying/common core), importance of Christian Community and so much more!!!  A must read!!
